Notes on The Clef, a new and innovative label created by Flautist Ronald Lashley, was officially launched in the summer of 2024. This exciting label replaces its predecessor, Hawthplay Records, LLC, created in 2014. Notes on the Clef Records is focused on creating and releasing an explosion of modern, energetic, fun and innovative music, blending various musical genres and styles with talented Musicians!

As a result of spending many years in New York and abroad, Ronald Lashley was exposed to and influenced by a melting pot of cultures and musical styles. The band Notes Of Fusion which collaborates with Notes On the Clef, was created to powerfully showcase live, the music of Ronald’s most recent original albums, Brooklyn Feeling and Zero to 100, two very groovy “Hip Jazz” albums- a new musical genre branded by Ronald and Vocalist Neika Jewelle.  These two entities, Notes of Fusion and Notes on The Clef are intertwined and they both embody the richly diverse musical and cultural influences of Brooklyn. Notes of Fusion integrates traditional Jazz with West Indian, Afro-Caribbean, Latin and Brazilian rhythms and syncopations, along with smooth and soulful Hip Hop and R&B grooves- “Hip Jazz!” Notes on the Clef Records is all about blending the old and the new, creating both new original compositions and innovative cover arrangements of songs we know and love, and letting the world know that it’s okay to dance and groove to Jazz! Notes of Fusion is focused on performing the music live, for the world to hear and enjoy!

Notes on the Clef Records will continue to work in tandem with the Notes of Fusion Band, and will be a platform for new talent, continuing what Hawthplay Records, LLC began. These two entities will feature a diverse collaboration of extremely talented musicians and vocalists who are eager to continue to take this new and exciting “Hip Jazz” music on the road!
